Meet the Team
Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime
Bandage and Beyond is a collaborative project between students at UBC & SFU, founded by 4 self-motivated undergraduate students:
Raj Saini, Joy Yang, Vanesse Li, and Jane Tjandra.
Directors

Raj Saini
Raj is an undergraduate in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University whose research spans infectious diseases, plastic surgery, and AI-enabled patient support. While volunteering in plastic and reconstructive surgery clinics, Raj saw many unhoused patients struggle with untreated cuts, infected wounds, and little guidance on basic care.

Recognizing this gap in resources and knowledge, he founded Bandage and Beyond to bring practical wound-care kits and street-level education to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, making help accessible where it's needed most.

Joy Yang

Joy is a Finance student at the UBC Sauder School of Business. She is passionate about engaging in topics in the intersection of economic development and health. She’s a research trainee at BC Children’s Hospital through the INSPIRE program, focusing on pediatric infectious disease. Joy is a part of the UBC Portfolio Management Foundation and currently pursuing an internship in Toronto.
She co-founded Bandage and Beyond to stay connected to her community and to help make care more accessible for those often overlooked. In her spare time, she enjoys historical documentaries and anything by Margaret Atwood.

Vanesse Li
Vanesse is an undergraduate student studying Microbiology & Immunology at the University of British Columbia. Her academic interests include infectious diseases, virology, and the intersection of neuroscience and microbiology. She is currently a research assistant in a neuroscience lab at UBC. Outside of academics, Vanesse is actively involved in her community as an adult staff member with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and as the owner of a small crochet business. She co-founded Bandage and Beyond out of a deep passion for making resources and knowledge more accessible, particularly for underrepresented communities.

Jane Tjandra
Jane is an undergraduate Health Sciences student at Simon Fraser University, where she supports liver-research initiatives at Vancouver Coastal Health. She volunteers with community and mobile food banks and serves as a responder with St. John Ambulance. Driven by a dedication to chronic-disease prevention and screening, Jane blends research, frontline service, and advocacy to expand public-awareness efforts in greater Vancouver.
